When Brittany Dejean was 12 years old, her father and little brother were in a horrific car accident.
Her sibling was killed, and her father Martin broke his neck and was left paralysed from the waist down.
As if this wasn’t devastating enough, her father – who had always loved to dance with her – no longer had the desire to move to the music.
“Everyone always knew him to be the first person out on the dance floor at a wedding,” Brittany says in a video about the family’s story.
And likewise, Martin said one of his first thoughts after the crash was the devastating realisation that he would never get to dance with his daughter again.
“I thought I’ll never dance at her wedding, and that really bothered me.”

The moment her dad took to the floor
But when Brittany got engaged, she just couldn’t bear the thought of her dad not sharing a dance with her.
After training and practicing for weeks, her dad joined her on the dancefloor for the first time in 17 years – to the song I Hope You Dance.
“I had a really good time because I wasn’t concerned about what I looked like. I was concerned about dancing and having fun and that’s really what it’s all about,” Martin said.
He had so much fun, that he continued to dance all night with his wife, new son in law, his daughter and the wedding guests.
Rounding off the emotional video, Brittany said: “I hope you’ll always remember what dancing is all about and challenge what you think is possible, but most of all, I hope you’ll dance.”
Now if that doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, we’re not sure what will.
