Nicola says, “We meet in a bar in New Plymouth – we have different stories on how the night went, but we both fancied each other. Blair put his number in my phone and the relationship sprouted from there.”
“He purposed to me a few years later on the rocks at the foreshore in New Plymouth after he took me out for breakfast. He did the whole, “down on one knee too!”
Planning got underway immediate. “The wedding was on my parent’s farm in Mangatoki,” Nicola says. “On the day, I got ready at the family home on the farm and Blair got ready at his parents in Stratford. All the guests parked in the paddock by the road, then got transported by tractor and trailer to the barn, where we had a marquee up and hay bales set out for them to sit on.
“The ceremony was very personal and fun. All the guests had a great time – they all got given a checklist card with a list of tasks to do as a fun game! The checklist card had get a snap of yourself for our guest book and write a message (we had a few of my friends walking around with props such as mustaches, lips, glasses and hats). It was a real hoot, the photos came out awesome.
“We had a few photos around the farm then up at the foreshore where Blair purposed. Our reception was at the Plymouth Hotel, then our first dance (this is a big thing for me because I’ve been dancing since I was four years old – as for Blair, he would never set foot on a dance floor).
“I remixed a few songs together, so it started off with me and Blair doing a choreographed slow dance, then the music changed to Five’s Everybody Get Up, so Blair and his groomsmen took the stage there, then it was time for my bridesmaid and I to dance to Spice Girls’ Stop.
“We had such an awesome time – everyone told us it would go fast, so we cherished every moment we could and it still feels like yesterday.”
