New Zealand wedding laws

You need a licence to wed

Did you know? You have to be at least 16 years old to marry, and if you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must sign a Consent to Marriage of a Minor form. To get a marriage licence, you must first complete a Notice of Intended Marriage form, which can be found on the Department of Internal Affairs website. Marriage licences cost around $170, to be paid when filing the Intended Marriage form.
