My ‘special needs’ son can fly

These uplifting images show that those with special needs can do anything they put their minds to - even fly.

When Alan Lawrence’s child, William, was born with Down syndrome, the father-of-four was consumed with “fear and frustration and selfishness”.

However, as he learned more about his son’s condition, Alan quickly discovered that his fears were completely unfounded. “What I thought was going to be a trial has become our biggest blessing”.

As Wil grew, Alan discovered that his little boy was so much more than a “special needs” baby. In fact, he was so special, he could fly! With the help of a good camera and a little Photoshop, Alan started creating pictures of Wil whizzing through the air.

“These photos of Wil flying have taken on a special meaning for me as I think about the unique challenges Wil is going to face growing up. I hope to teach him that even with his disabilities he can do anything he puts his mind to.

“Wil has Down syndrome, but my family and I know that won’t stop him from doing anything he puts his mind to – Wil Can Fly.”
