As an 11-year-old, Fletcher Oxford won the heart of New Zealand when he dedicated his New Zealand’s Got Talent audition to his missing cat, Sushi.
Now, eight years after she first left home, Fletcher’s fluffy runaway has been found.

“Huge news! Sushi has walked through the door after being missing for 8 years. I feel a new song coming on,” Fletcher, now a Tauranga Boys’ College student, wrote on his Facebook page.
“The world needs to know. Sushi IS BACK! After I don’t know how many years or songs she has just turned up. Nothing short of a miracle,” Fletcher’s family wrote on the Sushi Come Home Facebook page.
Thankfully, Sushi wandered home on Monday, just a a little skinnier than she was and with a bit of a sore foot.

It’s a happy ending to a story that began in 2012 when Fletcher told NZGT judge Rachel Hunter he was dedicating his version of Ronan Keating’s When You Say Nothing At All to Sushi, who had already been missing for years.

“Just before I started learning guitar, my cat, Sushi ran away,” he said before his audition. “I was really sad.”
“Since then, I’ve been writing songs and playing guitar just for her.
“One day my cat might come back because I’m famous and she understands that if she comes back, she might be famous too.”
Fletcher has continued chasing his music dream, taking out second place in the recent Smokefree Rockquest regional final.
