Elderly man buys stranger’s baby a Christmas gift to honour late wife

This man made my day and it will be a Christmas story I will tell to my little girl every year.

An elderly man made the day of a young British woman this week, after he bought her baby daughter a gift in memory of his late wife.

Abigail Crewe was doing a spot of shopping at her local ASDA supermarket when she struck up a polite conversation with an older gentleman, who started making a fuss over her four-month-old daughter.

To the mother’s surprise the man said he wanted to buy a toy for her baby, a generous offer that Abigail said just wasn’t necessary. The old man then went on to explain that this would be the second Christmas he’d spent alone since losing his wife 18-months ago – and he just wanted to buy someone a gift.

Moved by the man’s story Ms Crewe agreed to accept the gift and her daughter was given a Minnie Mouse toy (who his late wife apparently loved)

“This man made my day and it will be a Christmas story I will tell to my little girl every year when she asks what Christmas is all about,” wrote Ms Crewe in a Facebook post detailing the encounter.

“What an amazing man,” she added.

Abigail also shared a photo of their moment together, with the old man beaming down at her daughter.
