A video released by UNICEF has highlighted the disturbing realities of being a street child.

Child actress Anano, 6, was dressed up in two opposing looks for the video, which was shot in Tbilsi, capital of Georgia.

Initially, Anano was dressed in a smart coat and boots, and passersby stopped her to see if she was lost or needed help.

But when Anano swapped her smart clothes for dirty and disheveled ones, and applied soot to her face, strangers were less amenable.

The experiment eventually had to be called off when a man in a restaurant told the six-year-old to ‘go away.’

Explaining why people ignored her in her poor clothes, Anano said: “My face was covered in soot and my clothes were all dirty.

“This made me sad. They were all telling me to go away.”

The video was accompanied by the message: “Change starts when you choose to care.”
