Kiwi actor James Rolleston was discharged from Waikato Hospital earlier today and has now been transferred to an unnamed rehabilitation centre, to continue his journey towards recovery.
The beloved star of the smash hit Boy and The Dark Horse was in a vehicle that crashed into the Otara Bridge in his hometown of Opotiki at around 10.30pm on July 26.
According to reports, James had to be cut from the wreckage by fire crews and was then stabilised at the scene by a paramedic, before being airlifted to Tauranga Hospital in critical condition.
The following day, he was transferred to Waikato Hospital, where he remained in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.
“He’s alright. They are making him comfortable and he is responding to all the things he needs to respond to,” revealed James’ agent, Tim Gordon, in an interview with the Herald shortly after James’ accident hit headlines.
The heartbreaking news prompted an outpouring of support on social media, with many sharing their get well messages for the young star.
James made his memorable film debut as the young star of the uniquely Kiwi coming-of-age tale Boy, which was directed by Taika Waititi.
He went on to star in The Dark Horse and The Dead Lands and his latest film, The Rehearsal, had its world premiere at the New Zealand International Film Festival in July.
