A 22-year-old girl from Florida gave her stepdad the ultimate birthday surprise – by asking him to officially adopt her as his daughter.
Gabriella Guardado, gave her stepfather David Lynde adoption papers and a pen earlier this month as part of his birthday present.
With family members filming the moment David opens up the papers – the dad is overcome with emotion as he realises what Gabriella is asking him.
The 53-year-old can be heard saying: “You have no idea what this means.”
And according to the Daily Mail Online, Gabriella will officially take David’s last name this Friday, when the paperwork is finalised at the courthouse.
“Am I adopting you?” David says in disbelief as he pulls out the papers.
“I want you to,” says Gabriella, “You’ve been my dad and I know legal papers don’t change anything.”
Gabby says she wanted David to adopt her when she was younger, but her biological father would not agree to it. But after discovering that she could be legally adopted as an adult without the consent of her biological dad, Gabby decided it was the perfect birthday gift.
Gabriella told the Mail Online: “He helped me grow into the young woman that I am and helped me through all the hard times of getting through nursing school and becoming a young adult.”
