Hundreds of thousands of people have walked in solidarity around the world.

Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets around the world, following Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 45th President of the United States on Saturday.

More than 600 Women’s Marches have taken place across the globe, with protesters fighting for the rights of minorities.

In New Zealand, thousands of men, women and children turned out in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin in solidarity with those walking in the States on Saturday, protesting the policies President Trump campaigned on.

Crowds have been much larger than expected around the world. Washington organisers secured a permit for 200,000 people – but they now expect that number to be closer to 500,000 – possibly reaching even higher numbers than what turned out for Trump’s inauguration ceremony.

Hilary Clinton, who was defeated by Trump in the Presidential election in November, tweeted her support to protestors, telling them: “Thanks for standing, speaking & marching for our values @womensmarch. Important as ever. I truly believe we’re always stronger together.”
