Security footage has captured a woman’s surprising reaction after witnessing a fatal crash.
Seen meandering down a Brooklyn street with a slice of pizza, the woman turns around after hearing a collision behind her.
She stops and watches several people rush to the aid of the victims, including 31-year-old Victoria Nicodemus.
But after pausing for a few seconds, the mystery woman decides to carry on away from the scene, all the while taking a bite of pizza.
The CCTV footage was obtained by DNAinfo.
“I don’t know how you could keep eating your pizza and keep walking,” Lerima Guadelupe, who works at a bakery nearby, told DNAinfo.
“There’s no reason. At least try. Make it your business to help. Not OK. Wouldn’t you want to help?”
Local deli worker Frank Lopez also expressed disdain at the woman’s behaviour.
“All I can say is the world we live in, some people are cold-hearted. There’s nothing I can do to change them. God have mercy on them and that’s it.”
Nicodemus was with her boyfriend when they were hit by the car. The two were rushed to Brooklyn Hospital Center, where Nicodemus died. Her boyfriend was treated and later released.
Three others were hospitalised following the incident.
An NYPD spokesman has said there was no legal obligation for the woman to help.
However, many have expressed their outrage, saying people are morally obliged to help victims of such accidents.
The driver of the car has been arrested and is facing charges of driving without a license and driving without insurance.
