Trade Me has announced it will soon offer users a refund service for deals gone wrong.
If buyers receive an item that is not as described on the online auction site, or if the item does not arrive at all, they can apply for a refund from February 21.
Trade Me spokesperson Stuart McLean told Fairfax Media they expect sellers to do their bit by accepting faulty goods for return, but said when trades go badly, they will be able to step in and help in some situations where a dispute has been lodged.
“If the sale isn’t fair we’ll refund the buyer and take the money off the seller and Trade Me will deal with the seller on the buyer’s behalf,” he said.
The new system will only apply to goods purchased via the Trade Me card payment system, so the entire transaction can be seen, and the refund claim can not exceed $2500, with a few exceptions.
It will cover both new and used items.
