And now in a new documentary, an expert in handwriting has made a startling claim – that she believes the ransom note found in the case could have been written by JonBenet’s mother.

Cina Wong, a handwriting expert, appeared on ABC’s show 20/20 on Sunday, that examined the JonBenet case.

In the programme, Wong says she spent three weeks examining a ransom note from the case, alongside samples of Patsy, JonBenet’s mother’s, handwriting.

From this, Cindy determined that it was “highly probable she wrote the ransom note.”

Cindy found over 200 similarities between the samples, and that the way the letters were formed made her think Patsy did indeed write the ransom.

Back in 1996, Patsy said she realised her daughter was missing when she found a ransom note on the kitchen staircase.

The two and a half page note demanded $118,000 for her safe return. This amount was almost the exact value of a bonus her husband had received earlier that year.

Another pivotal person who will feature in the documentary is the grand juror, who presided over the case.

According to anonymous juror, the jury voted to indict the parents on charges related to the murder of their daughter, but the prosecutor at the time disagreed.

John and Patsy Ramsey were cleared for the death after 12 years of defending their innocence. This was two years after Patsy died from cancer at the age of 49.
