Child dies from gunshot wound in South Auckland

Police were called to the Mangere house just after midday on Thursday.

A toddler has been killed by a gunshot wound at a South Auckland home.

Police said the 2-year-old girl died at a home on Mangere’s Favona Rd just before midday on Thursday

“On arrival, we found the lifeless body of a 2 year old toddler – a young girl,” Detective Inspector Faa Va’aelua told media at a press conference.

“Our enquiries have so far revealed that she has suffered a gunshot wound that has proven fatal.”

The girl lived at the property with her parents and her three siblings, Va’aelua said.

A gun was found at the address and a 26-year-old man will appear in Manukau District Court this morning, charged with unlawful possession of a pistol.

A resident on the street tole the Herald she heard a “loud explosion” and then sounds of someone sobbing.
