Camille Cosby, wife of comedian Bill Cosby, will testify against her husband of more than 50 years in a defamation suit brought by seven women.
The women allege that the entertainer falsely claimed they lied about their sexual assault and rape allegations.
Camille, who despite being “livid and humiliated” by her husband’s disgraceful actions, does not actually wish to testify. According to Cosby’s lawyer, testifying would be an “undue burden” for her.
The legal team also argued that she lacks any first-hand knowledge of the events, but the request was rejected.
In a 12-page decision, U.S. Magistrate Judge David Hennessy said Camille failed to prove how the couple are protected by the state’s marital disqualification law; therefore she will appear in court on Wednesday, January 6.
“My husband doesn’t deserve jail, but he does deserve every bit of the hell he’s going through now even though he is still pretending that this hell doesn’t exist,” Camille reportedly told a close family source who spoke to Page Six.
According to the same source, the 71-year-old knew about her husband’s inappropriate infidelities but asked him to be discreet so as to not shame her. However, as more than 50 women have come forward in the past year, accusing Bill Cosby of sexual assault or sexual misconduct, she is now “sickened” by the number of victims.
“She’s been fighting giving a deposition, but that’s not because she wants to keep protecting Bill, it’s because it’s so humiliating,” the source said.
Camille was notably absent on Wednesday when Bill Cosby was charged in a Pennsylvania court with three counts of aggravated sexual assault – the first legal action against the 78-year-old after months of compounding accusations.
Bail was set at $1 million, under the condition that he surrenders his passport and has no contact with the victim, a woman named Andrea Constand.
Cosby walked free after posting $100,000 – the 10 percent of bail required for release.
His next court appearance for the sexual assault case is January 14.
If convicted, Mr. Cosby could face up to 10 years in jail and a $25,000 fine for drugging and sexually assaulting his victim.
