World tennis champion Venus Williams has taken to social media to express her heart-felt thoughts on the car accident she was involved in that resulted in the death of a man.

The fatal crash, which happened on June 9 in Florida where Williams lives, seriously injured Jerome Barson. The 78-year-old died two weeks later.

Breaking her silence on the tragic event, Williams recently took to Facebook to share her feelings.

“I am devasted and heartbroken by this accident. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers,” she wrote in a touching post.

While it’s unclear who is to blame for the accident, TMZ reports Barson’s wife told police she had been approaching an intersection when Willliams darted out suddenly causing her sedan to T-bone Williams’ SUV.

It’s alleged Williams’ told police she had been attempting slowly make it through traffic which had caused her vehicle to block the right of way.

Witness reports at the scene claim Williams sped into the intersection, although that claim has been refuted by Williams’ lawyer.

TMZ also claims a police report has found Williams “at fault for violating the right of way” of Barson’s vehicle. No evidence has been found to suggest Williams was under the influence at the time or had been distracted by a device.

The Guardian reports the tennis star now faces a law suit by the family who are seeking unspecified damages.

Williams has not been cited or charged over the incident.
