Disgraced Olympian Oscar Pistorius has been injured in a prison fight.

A South African prison spokesman confirmed overnight that he was involved in an altercation over the use of a phone.

“Oscar Pistorius sustained a bruise following an alleged incident with another inmate over the use of a public phone in the special care unit where both offenders are detained at Attridgeville correctional centre,” the spokesman said.

Pistorious is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines Day in 2013.

Oscar Pistorious is escorted into court in 2016 for sentencing on the upgraded charge of murder.

Last month Pistorious’s sentence was more than doubled by the supreme court of appeal after prosecutors successfully argued that his 6 year sentence for murder was “shockingly lenient”.

In sentencing Justice Legoabe Willie Seriti said he displayed “a lack of remorse, and does not appreciate the gravity of his actions”.

Pistorious has always maintained that the death of Steenkamp was a mistake and that he was in fact trying to protect her from what he thought was an intruder.

It’s not the first time Pistorious has been injured in prison. In August last year he was treated in hospital for a wrist injury sustained in his cell.

There were conflicting reports at the time as to the nature of the injury. Prison officials said he had fallen out of bed. His brother Carl said he slipped in his cell. Other unnamed sourced within the prison claimed the injuries were self-inflicted, something Pistorious’s brother denied.

“I know there are reports saying that he had tried to injure himself” Carl Pistorious wrote on Twitter. “They (are) completely untrue and sensational. All other crazy and unreliable news stories are also baseless.” He said the injuries were “nothing serious”.
