Newlywed dies just hours after her wedding in Auckland

The 26-year-old started feeling unwell during the ceremony.

An Auckland bride has died just hours after her wedding.

Jamieka McCarthy Harford, 26, fell ill during her wedding ceremony in Whangaparaoa Peninsula on Saturday, and died later that day, Newshub reported.

She had contracted meningococcal disease. Auckland Regional Public Health Service is investigating the case.

“Jamieka was so happy to be married and the wedding was a beautiful, happy occasion, surrounded by love,” her family said in a statement.

Jamieka’s husband told Newshub that her death had come as a huge shock.

“This has been incredibly difficult to process,” he said.

Her funeral will take place in Auckland later this week.
