After a career spanning over 15 years, Silver Ferns defender Anna Harrison has made the tough decision to retire from international netball.
The statuesque sporting star represented New Zealand in 88 tests, won two Commonwealth Games gold medals (in 2006 and 2010) and gold at the 2003 Netball World Cup.
Reflecting on her choice to step back from international competition, Anna said the commitment required to prepare for the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games would involve too much time away from her young family.
“I have thought long and hard about this decision; I know how much time and effort is required to commit to a Commonwealth Games and World Cup campaign,” she said.
“I pride myself on giving 100 per cent in everything I do, and am proud to be able to hang up the black dress on my own terms.”

Netball New Zealand chief executive Jennie Wyllie said Anna was “one of the world’s best defenders”.
“Anna has had a decorated international career over a long period of time,” she said.
“Her desire and commitment to excellence and to continually challenge herself has seen her rise to the top in two sports – beach volleyball and Netball,” she said.
A proud mum, Anna welcomed her daughter Georgia in January 2015, joining big brother Isaac. At the time, she told Woman’s Day that she and husband Craig were “feeling very blessed with [their] perfect pair”.
While she is stepping back from international netball, Anna will continue to play in the ANZ Premiership for the Northern Mystics.
