Wedding of the week: Eileen and Alfred Crawford

This special day marked the end of the summer drought.

It’s wedding season, and we’re celebrating at Now To Love by publishing your wedding stories. See details at the bottom of this story to find out how your wedding can appear on Now To Love.

After 14 years and three children together, Eileen and Alfred Crawford were married in Okaihau on January 21st, 2017.

It was Eileen who had finally taken matters into her own hands, proposing to Alfred on Leap Day 2016.

Their children Stella (11), Devon (7) and Mackenzie (5) were included in their nuptials, and the ceremony was conducted in an alcove on their neighbours’ farm, with an informal dinner of spit-roasted pork and beef with salads made by friends, followed by sweets made by the couple’s mums, held afterward at home.

The couple say family and friends contributed to so many aspects of the wedding – from creating the cake (Alfred’s mum) to the catering, makeup, hair, flowers, singing the girls down the aisle, decorating the garden and even stropping the marquees down to avoid them from flying away in the strong Northerlies.

As if Mother Nature herself was in attendance, the crippling summer drought was broken with 50mm of rain that fell later that night …. it made everyone dance till late.
