Wedding of the week: Daniel and Paula McAtamney

Lake Tekapo made a stunning backdrop for this rustic-themed wedding.

Daniel and Paula McAtamney were married on February 11 at Lake Tekapo in the South Island.

Bride Paula says the day went without a hitch, with the ceremony held atop a hill above Lake Tekapo, giving the happy couple and their guests the most stunning views for their special day.

The reception afterwards was at the Mt John Woolshed – which proved the perfect venue for the couple’s rustic-themed nuptials.

Daniel, 30, and Paula, 25, met three years ago in an agriculture class and got engaged a year later when Daniel dropped down on one knee.

The proposal didn’t go exactly as planned…

Says Paula, “We were at Dan’s parents’ farm and he had planned for a helicopter to take us to the highest peak on the station. Unfortunately it was a windy day and the helicopter couldn’t fly. He then went for plan B and drove up to a spot with a good view of the lake [but] when we get there it was windy and cold and I refused to get out.”

“”So Dan came around to get me and I locked myself in…

“Eventually I started to wonder what we were doing up there…”

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Points for persistence, Daniel – and congratulations to the happy couple.
