Newlyweds reveal happiest moment from first year of marriage

It's not when you might think.

You might think the happiest moment of your first year married would be the wedding day itself, but it seems that’s not the case.

According to new brides, the top moments of the year tend to be smaller, more private moments that herald in a new chapter of their lives as married women.

“For me, it was the moment we returned home from our honeymoon,” said one bride. “As we walked through the door, knowing all the craziness was over and real life was going to begin…that was such a good feeling.”

Another said the moment came when her other half defended her to her mother-in-law.

“My husband jumped to my defense, and basically told her that she was being disrespectful and she needed to stop. Knowing I wouldn’t have to go through the next 40 years nodding along to her nitpicking was a very happy moment.”

Others agreed being introduced as “the wife” for the first time gave them a buzz, with one saying it: “filled me with this sense of pride I’m not sure I can describe.”

For another, it was the realization that romance wouldn’t cease simply because they were hitched.

“The first day we went back to work, my husband came home with a bouquet of flowers for me…I realized he wouldn’t stop surprising me just because we were married.”

The last response that Brides got, almost brought us to tears. One newlywed said that he first year was the time that made her feel “like I had a real partner,” and that everything from sorting out furniture delivery to getting a forgotten present on Christmas Eve was better when attacked as a team.
