Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have announced their split after seven months of marriage.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” Miley’s rep said in a statement to People magazine.

“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers,” the statement continued.

“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

News of the split comes as Miley was photographed kissing Kaitlynn Carter, Brody Jenner’s ex-wife, during a holiday to Italy. Kaitlynn and Brody’s split was announced last week.

Liam was spotted earlier this week in his home country of Australia, where he has been spending time with his family.

Rumours of a split have been swirling for weeks, intensifying when Miley declared at Glastonbury in July that she was “f–king sick of men.”

Miley and Liam married in December after a 10 year on/off relationship. News of their wedding came as a surprise, as the couple had long considered themselves married and always said they “didn’t feel the need to sign a piece of paper” to make it official.

Miley, 26, and Liam, 29 met in 2008 on the set of The Last Song, a romantic movie based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. They went public with their relationship in 2010 and became engaged in 2012, but broke it off a year later.

They rekindled their relationship in 2015 and had been together ever since.

Of their split, Miley said “I needed to change so much… And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard. Suddenly you’re like, ‘I don’t recognise you anymore.’

“We had to refall for each other,” she said of getting back together in 2015.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan back in 2017, Miley revealed what she’d learned from her parents Trish and Billy Ray Cyrus about marriage.

“Nothing and no-one stays the same,” she explained. “Grow, evolve, change with each other and celebrate your love’s journey.”

Still holidaying in Italy, Miley has posted a series of photos to Instagram following the announcement of the split.

“Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” she wrote in one post. “Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water… change is inevitable. “

She went on to say “My dad always told me ‘Nature never hurries but it is always on time’…. it fills my heart with peace and hope KNOWING that is true.”

The singer then followed it up with another post: “Life’s a climb… but the view is great.”
