Janet Jackson has taken to social media to share a new (and very candid) video with her fans.
The video, which was filmed to announce the continuation of the singer-songwriter’s world tour, touches on her life as a new-mum and addresses her highly-speculated separation from husband Wissam Al Mana.
“Hey you guys,” she begins. “It’s me, Jan, just in case you don’t recognise me since I have put on a few since I had the baby.”
“Thank God for him [the baby] you guys, ‘cos he is so healthy, so beautiful, so sweet, so loving, such a happy baby …”
The pop star, who secretly married her billionaire beau back in 2012, went on to confirm that she and Wissam have indeed called time on their marriage.
“I just want to keep it real for you guys for a second — yes I separated from my husband,” she said. “We are in court and the rest is in God’s hands.”
News of the couple’s split made headlines just three months after the arrival of their miracle son, Eissa.
But one insider explained to Page Six that trouble had been brewing for months.
“She thought he had become too controlling during the pregnancy and she had already allowed him to dictate her appearance and even the way she performed at concerts,” a source, who works closely with the couple, told the publication.
The outlet said that Wissam wanted his wife to tone down her style and the image she projected in her music.
“It drove her crazy and she felt she was losing her fan base,” the insider said.
Wissam was Janet’s third husband. She was previously married to singer James DeBarge and dancer Rene Elizondo.
The couple tied the knot in 2012
While the 50-year-old has traditionally been very private about her relationship, last year she shared her pregnancy news with fans.
“My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour,” she explained in a Facebook video message in April, 2016.
“Please, if you can try and understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders! But I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”
