A recent survey has revealed what makes the perfect (and worst) proposal, and it turns out it’s not a huge rock on her finger.
According to a study conducted in the UK, most people are more concerned about the location and thought that goes into the proposal than the type of ring used.
65% of those quizzed by AttractionTix.co.uk say a sentimental location, such as where they first met, is the best place for popping the question. This is closely followed by doing it at a famous landmark or theme park, the beach and a sporting event.
The idea of doing it at home, work, or at a surprise engagement party (presumptuous much?) were massive turn-offs for those surveyed, and big crowds are regarded as one of the biggest mistakes to make.
Proposal clichés like doing it on Valentine’s Day are a big no-no, and people also warned away from the idea of Christmas Day, birthdays, and somebody else’s wedding day.
Surprisingly, many advise to steer clear of the tradition of getting down on one knee, preferring a more modern proposal.
And in this age of social media, photo opportunities at the proposal site made the top five considerations when popping the question.
The top three reasons for proposal rejections:
Too many people watching (35%)
The speech not being romantic/thoughtful enough (31%)
A cheesy location (25%)
Amazingly, those surveyed picked a figure of over $2,000 for how much the big gesture should cost – though this excluded the price of the engagement ring.
