The top reason women leave their marriages, according to experts

These marriage therapists share the number one reason they think women end long-term relationships.

Marriage therapists know a thing or two about the reasons for divorce – they see relationships at their best and worst, after all.

The Huffington Post talked with marriage therapists to find the reasons that drive women to leave their marriages, and ways to help avoid getting to that point.

According to Kristin Davin, a psychologist and meditator in New York City, women often feel taken for granted in their relationship and feel overly responsible for their marriage.

“These women feel they carry the weight of the relationship, do most of the emotional work and constantly have to find new and novel things to do to keep the relationship alive,” she said. “It gets frustrating when they don’t receive equal (or close to equal) care in return. After a while, they say, ‘why bother’?”

Davin suggested that a successful marriage requires attention, effort, intention and strong communication.

That’s why communication within any relationship is key, says marriage therapist Christine Wilke.

“So many women don’t feel seen, heard or validated in the relationship.”
