What’s the magic age when sex just couldn’t get any better? The goal posts change on this front all the time, quite frankly. But the latest survey puts it at 66 years old.
This could be really depressing to you, if 66 is still a long way away. Or it could give you something exciting to look forward to, especially if you already find sex pretty good.
This latest figure comes from a survey done by Match.com, who found that how you feel at different ages has an impact on what kind of sex you have. They questioned 5000 single people ranging in age about their sex life.
Their reasoning behind 66 being the optimal age makes sense: we’re more self-conscious and aware of consequences like unwanted pregnancy in our twenties and thirties and that can interfere with our ability to lose our inhibitions and be in the moment. Older people enjoy more confidence in themselves and in their bodies, which can make them more relaxed bed companions.
While previous surveys have come up with different ages, they have primed us for this result:
According to a survey by contraceptive app Natural Cycles that came out last year, from the age of 36 the sex just gets better and better for women.
Another study by researchers from the National Institute of Aging in the US, who surveyed women aged 45 to 60, revealed that these women were having the best sex of their lives, despite the fact their libidos had lowered and they were having sex less often than they used to.
Commenting on the results of the latest Match.com survey, sex therapist Kimberly Resnick Anderson told the Huffington Post that as women age, they become “more selfish, in a good way”.
She said there are “no more worries” about getting pregnant or having the kids barge in on them.
“Plus, many have an increased comfort with their bodies and a healthy sense of entitlement to sexual satisfaction. Sex at 65 or 70 can feel carefree and easy because it is more about pleasure and connection and less about performance and ‘selling yourself.'”
Roll on, retirement!
