Seed bombing

Seed bombing is widely used in Africa, where they are thrown in barren or grassy areas.

Become a guerrilla gardener by making up seed bombs and throwing them onto vacant land near your house. The idea is that lovely wild flowers will grow there instead of weeds. Here’s a great recipe, which can be propelled from any car window, bicycle or during a walk onto a bit of land.

Seed Bombs

  • Clay

  • Compost

  • Wildflower seeds, suited to the area

  • Sunflower seeds

  • Water

In a bucket, mix five parts clay to one part compost, throwing in a handful of seeds of your choice. Add water if you need it and mould the mix into balls. Let these dry for three days and, when they are hard, throw them on vacant land. Check it out in a few months to see if it worked!
