A NASA Clean Air Study has found that house plants make our lives healthier by cleaning pollutants from the air.
The foliage of indoor plants removes low levels brought into our homes by chemical cleaning products, synthetic fibres, carpets and insulation. Fungi, bacteria and tobacco smoke also contaminate our homes.
House plants also increase a room’s humidity, reducing respiratory problems. The top 10 air-cleaning types are: English ivy, spider plant, devil’s ivy, Peace Lily, Chinese evergreen, bamboo palm, snake plant (mother-in-law’s tongue), heartleaf philodendron, selloum philodendron and elephant ear.
