New Zealand Woman’s Weekly was inundated with votes as Kiwis made the difficult decision, choosing from a shortlist of five cakes narrowed down by food editor Nici Wickes – chocolate, banana, fruit, sponge or carrot cake.
Well-known Kiwis including Breakfast’s Jack Tame and celebrity cook Nadia Lim were both rooting for the humble sponge cake with jam and strawberries, but NZ’s Hottest Home Baker host Colin Mathura Jeffery picked the winner – the classic carrot cake with cream cheese icing.
Now, as the Weekly prepares to celebrate our 85th birthday, we know exactly which cake we’re best to bake for blowing out all those candles.
But this year, we’re also doing something a little different with our birthday cakes – we’re choosing not to eat them ourselves! We’re encouraging readers to bake a cake for the Weekly this month, and then in the spirit of our magazine, share it with someone else. You’ve heard of paying it forward, now the Weekly is asking kiwis to Bake It Forward.
We have incredible prizes for joining the Bake It Forward movement, which you can check out here. Make sure you grab this week’s issue of New Zealand Woman’s Weekly for Nici Wickes’ winning recipe, along with fabulous discount coupons from our friends at Countdown, to make it even easier to get baking this week!
