Why do self-tanners smell so yucky?

Actually, they don’t – any more. originally, self-tanners had a really strong odour because they contain a chemical called dihydroxyacetone (DHA). These days, self-tanners smell much better. The DHA is still there but we don’t notice it thanks to the addition of essential oils that successfully mask the smell.
