A friend gave me her recipe for Tamari roasted almonds after I complimented her on them recently. I have to admit though, I’m not sure what “tamari sauce” is. Where would I find it?
Tamari is a Japanese take on soy sauce. Like soy, it’s primarily made from fermented soybeans, but unlike it, wheat isn’t normally an ingredient. This gives it a darker, richer flavour than soy. Tamari is widely available in supermarkets – look for it where you would normally find soy sauce.
Tamari almonds are delicious and easy to make. They’re great for dieters, as almonds are high in protein and heart-friendly, due to high levels of monounsaturated fat. Almonds have been proven to help stave off diabetes – and help lower bad cholesterol.
