I love the red velvet cakes I’ve been seeing over the last year or so, and finally tried one last week. It was delicious, but I can’t quite figure out the flavour and how to recreate it at home.
You may be confused that while red velvet cake has a subtle chocolate flavour, it is in fact red. It is chocolate cake with colouring providing the ‘red’. Red velvet cakes – a version of the old American favourite Devil’s Food Cake – have a cult following, with thousands of recipes on the web all claiming to be the best.
