Hairstyles for square-shaped faces

I have a square-shaped face and long hair to the middle of my back. I really want a fringe but am not sure how i should have it cut – do you have any ideas?

This is a very common question we get asked in the salon. Long hair with a fringe can look very stylish although the right shape is necessary to make it work. For people with a squarer face there are a few things to take into account; firstly you want to avoid making your face even more square so a blunt straight fringe is not a good idea as this will box you in. I would recommend trying something a bit longer and swept to the side to soften the square appearance. If a shorter fringe is desired ie above the eyes I would make sure it was cut on an angle or asymmetrically and broken up to avoid any hard lines.
