Going blonde for summer

I need help. My hair colour is naturally a dirty blonde, and I have been dying it black/dark brown for about two years. I haven’t dyed it for four months and really want to go blonde for summer. I’ve asked hairdressers and they said it will cost me over $500 to go blonde as they will need too strip the colour out of it a couple of times, then slowly start the dying process. Have you got any tips or hints, I’m so sick of having dark hair!

I asked Melissa Hita of L’oréal Professionnel to help me with some expert advice for this one. Here’s what she said, “I completely understand your need to go blonde in the summer months and how you’d prefer to do this at home with less expense but my advice is to go to the salon – it’s a worthwhile investment. You will need to take a two-step approach. Firstly, fix the problem of dark hair with a product called Effassor, this will keep your hair in good condition but remove as much of the colour as possible. Then create a base to start from, I’d suggest a cool shade as the base colour and then proceed with some highlights around the face to start with and then you can build on from there. Because your hair may be in poor condition, and prone to breakage, it’s best to let your hairdresser assess the condition of your hair and advise if you need to make these changes in two steps.”
