Dress for the job

I’m not sure what to wear on my first day starting at a new job. Any tips?

Think back to when you went for your interview – can you remember what other staff were wearing? In most offices, dressing the part will show that you take your job seriously. So dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

once you first start work it is important to be noticed for the right reasons:

  • Your job skills and not your wacky dress sense.

  • If appropriate, wear a suit or for a less formal look you can’t beat a pair of well-cut trousers and a fitted top or shirt in a colour that suits your skin tone.

  • Even if some of the people in the workplace wear jeans, try to avoid them for at least the first week, until you can gauge the vibe of the workplace and see if they are appropriate.
