The best time to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner according to experts

Turns out there is an optimum time to eat.

It’s likely that your meal sizes increase throughout the day. Most people opt for a bowl of cereal for breakfast, maybe a sandwich or salad for lunch, and a large dinner in the evening.

However, according to scientists, we’ve been eating our meals in the wrong order all along.

It turns out eating more calories earlier on in the day can be good for our health.

One study found that women lost more weight when they ate their lunch earlier in the day. Women who ate breakfast later in the day, however, were found to have a higher body mass index (BMI).

“There’s already a very old saying, eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper, and I think there’s some truth in that,” Gerda K. Pot, MD, told BBC News.

And scientists believe our internal clocks are to blame. (This relationship or link between what we eat and how it affects our body clock is known by some as “chrono-nutrition.”)

“We have a body clock that determines that every 24 hours each metabolic process has an optimal time when something should happen,” Dr. Pot added.

“That suggests that having a large meal in the evening is actually, metabolically speaking, not the right thing to do because your body is already winding down for the night.”

This research is important in fighting obesity as it could mean people who are trying to lose weight may not have to change what they eat, but just change the times they eat at.
