If you’re trying to cut back on you alcohol intake in 2017, this clever little gadget could be just what you need.

We’ve all had those nights where we’ve been happily sipping away at the vino, feeling totally fine, until we stand up and realise we’re a lot less sober than we thought.

It’s pretty easy to drink too much when you’re socialising, and short of keeping a napkin-tally of our alcohol units, how can we keep track while out and about?

Proof is the new device on every gadget-lovers lips, promising to read alcohol molecules through your skin and deliver results to your phone.

Like a wino version of the FitBit, Proof is a discrete bracelet created by Californian firm Milo Sensors.

Using electrochemical sensors, the bracelet is able to read your blood alcohol level and deliver the news onto your phone.

Not only does this seem great for making sure you’re safe to drive, it’s also just a fantastic way to ensure you’re not getting too plastered when you’re trying to stay level headed.

And for a bit of extra fun, you can also invite your mates to see your results, so friends can keep track of each other’s drinking.

But CEO Evan Strenk insists that Proof is meant to empower drinkers, not chastise them.

You can find out more about the device here.
