Learn how to resolve conflicts

Are you unhappy with constant arguing with your partner or friends? Conflict is inevitable and natural in a relationship. But rather than dealing with it in a destructive way like arguing, you can learn to deal with conflict more effectively, making everyone feel happier and more in control. Try these tips:

  • Learn to negotiate. Sort out problems straight away rather than letting them escalate.

  • Rather than letting off heat when you’re angry, wait until you’ve calmed down before you begin to talk.

  • Instead of criticising the other person (“You’re so uncaring”), concentrate on expressing your emotions “I feel hurt when you don’t consider my feelings”).

  • Use reflective listening. Feed back what your partner has said to show you understand.

  • Try to keep positive! Remember your love for each other.
