Workout at work

The deadlines are piling up, there are calls to be made and emails to send – how can you find time for exercise in your busy work life? Here are a few tips for fitting fitness into your daily routine at the office:

  • Set your watch or phone alarm to beep (quietly!) every hour, to remind you to get up and move around. Even a trip to the toilet or water cooler will burn a few calories, stretch your muscles and relieve stress.

  • Take the stairs instead of the lift – this can help to wake you up if you’re suffering from an afternoon energy slump and is better for you than the sugary offerings of the snack machine.

  • During your coffee or lunch break, go for a walk outside to get some fresh air and, hopefully, sunshine.

  • Investigate any nearby gyms to see if they have lunchtime classes. Research shows that exercise can both relieve stress and make workers more productive.
