Woman loses more than half her body weight in a year

“Finally taking control of my weight was such a huge turning point for me, both physically and mentally.”

To say that 26-year-old Jennifer Ginley’s life has changed dramatically would be an understatement.

And that’s because the self-dubbed “serial failed-dieter” lost 61kg of her 167cm frame in 12 months.

Photos taken on a family holiday in Florida in 2015 spurred GInley on to start her weightloss journey.

According to the Daily Mail, after finishing high school as a “fairly average-sized” 18-year-old, Ginley began studying away from home at Manchester University, and gained so much weight, she would often cry over the fact that she “looked so unhealthy”.

Not only that, but looking at photos taking on a family holiday to the US made Ginley see herself in a whole new light.

“’One picture of me with the Little Mermaid, my favourite Disney character, actually made me gasp,” she remembers.

It was this realisation – and the fact that she felt she had to tell her partner of 11 years not to propose to her until she got her health on track – that was the catalyst for Ginley to adjust her lifestyle.

So, in May 2015, she went to a Slimming World meeting in Liverpool in the UK – and began to change her life.

Slimming down, according to Ginley, has had a profound impact on her mental frame of mind.

“Before Slimming World I wouldn’t eat any breakfast or prepare any lunch or snacks for work, so I always found myself eating whatever I could lay my hands on, shop-bought sandwiches, packet noodles, chip shop meals,” she says.

Now she eats more regular meals that include fruit, stir-fries, crust-less quiche and even chocolate.

Ginley, who did weigh 122kg, says she feels like feel “a butterfly, emerging from my cocoon”.

Before you embark on any kind of weightloss journey, be sure to consult a trusted GP first.
