Week twenty two – April Ieremia’s weight loss diary

The pressure’s mounting. I’m eating like a horse and drinking like a fish and it’s all the Rugby World Cup’s fault.

I only have 10 weeks to do whatever it takes to lose 12kg and look great for summer. As if that isn’t hard enough, I have now also added the pressure of posing in a white bikini into the mix to liven things up.

All my friends thought I was mad when I told them, but stuff it. I’m up for the challenge and if it’s not really hard then it’s not worth contemplating.

So after last week’s hellish week of training, I decided I should take a little time off. With a very heavy work load, it was difficult to find time to get to Scotty or even be in town to weigh in.

Unofficially, I lost 500g this week, which puts my weight at 81.8kg. Working out at Scotty’s new gym has been a real treat and I have to admit I missed it this week.

I’ll definitely be back there next week because my current lax approach is a setback I don’t need.

A few years ago, I had trouble finding the time to train, to exercise, to go for a run or to even get out of the house.

I found it a huge pain in the arse to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Days of procrastinating quickly turned into weeks, then months and then all of a sudden it had been three years and I was 30kg overweight.

I have realised the real key to my success is regular exercise. When I exercise, I don’t feel so hungry. Also, if I exercise before and after a big night, I’m much more restrained in merriment and my alcohol consumption.

Another key is to get through plateaus. These are the times when nothing moves, however much exercise you do. ooving past that point always takes an almighty effort, so you have to take a big breath and push yourself even harder, because your body is actually crying out for you to push harder.

I need to make a commitment that will get me through the rugby. I should give up the drink, the hospitality nibbles and the big nights out, but since I can’t see myself giving up all three, let’s start with just the food and the late nights.

First things first. on oonday morning I’m going to front up to Scotty in my white bikini, to give him the full measure of what I want to achieve and what he’s dealing with. North of the belly button will be fine, it’s the area south of that I’m really worried about I don’t care about the reality check, what I am worried about is Scotty saying, “April, what you want, can’t be done!”

April is right, to get past a plateau you often have to push your body to a new level. oental blocks are what make us retreat back into that circle of yo-yo dieting, giving up or trying the newest fad. There are so many parts to changing your lifestyle to a healthier one, but one of the key components is finding your limitations.

Pushing your body once in a while actually encourages the body to change. The ladies from April Loses It all understand this is the real key to their transformation. This week I want every one of you to find an obstacle and go conquer it. This could be a hill in your neighbourhood or a long-forgotten running or walking track you haven’t done in years. Just make sure you don’t stop until you have completed it, no matter how long it takes you. Let the light in your head switch back on, so you can restart the high-energy exercise regime you need to get out of the dreaded plateau.
