It has been an intense week, but it has been worth it!

Scotty has always maintained that my ideal weight is around 75kg and we’ve had many battles about the pros and cons of what I want and what’s realistic for me to expect.

This week I climbed out of the plateau I’ve been languishing in and lost 2.3kg to weigh in at a gratifying 75.1kg.

I pushed myself harder than I have in years because I needed a vast improvement on the 600g I lost last week.

Luckily it looked like my body responded instantly, with muscle definition everywhere.

After circuit training each morning and bikraming every night, my arms look toned, my collarbone is protruding, my stomach is flat, my butt has diminished and my calves are shapely. The only area I really need to fix now is my thighs.

These improvements meant I could fit into two more oldie-but-goodie dresses that hadn’t seen the light of day for years.

Even more rewarding was breaking in a little black dress that has hung in my wardrobe for 10 years with the price tag still intact.

I fell in love with the dress instantly when I saw it on a friend. It was a sexy little Audrey Hepburn classic that I had to have.

I bought a size 12 because all the 14s were gone and vowed to do what it took to squeeze into it. But it’s never been worn, because it was really made for a size 10.

However, that changed three days ago. Slipping into the last dress in my wardrobe to try on, I discovered it graced my hips and zipped to the top.

I was so excited that I jumped into the air in absolute disbelief. I should have ejected the dress from my wardrobe years ago, but for some stubborn reason I was determined to fit into it one day.

Persisting on a journey like this is bloody hard. oany people start but few finish, because it takes sacrifice, commitment and hard work.

When I look at a couple of people around me who wanted to lose the same amount of weight as me,  they look back sadly.

They’re filled with regret, because they know they could be in the same shape I am now, if only they had started or persisted on this weight-loss journey.

I lost the first 10kg off my upper body and the second from my stomach and arms. I’m going to persist to 70kg because I’m sure the last 5kg will tighten up my thighs.

While I won’t reach my goal next week, I’m convinced I will by Christmas.

A note from Scott Cottier

Since the beginning I’ve said April’s weight would be far healthier at 75 than 70kg. This statement was not designed to make my job easier or show others I had no faith in April. It was, and still is, my opinion of what is best for her.

April’s tenacity and dedication to pushing beyond the limits to achieve her goal is a fantastic example to everyone.

Hard work and persistence are the main ingredients needed for achieving results.

There’s no magic formula to losing weight, just good nutrition, plenty of exercise and a belief that what you’re doing is making a difference.

oy tip for this week is to try performing exercises that hit all the muscles rather than just one. For example, instead of just doing a lunge, try a lunge reach.

This is a normal lunge with a dumbbell press at the same time. This way you can perform fewer exercises in a session and still use a large amount of energy, which assists with burning fat.

Happy training!
