Week thirty – April Ieremia’s weight loss diary

That’s it! I’m going on a starvation diet!

After this last result, I will have to if I’m going to make my target in time.

The realist in me is screaming, “Don’t be a dingbat, pull your head out of the clouds. You’re not going on a starvation diet. Just admit you have done well enough and give up. There’s no way you will make it now.”

At the same time, the idealist in me is pleading, “Don’t fold now. You’ve come such a long way and you’re so close to achieving what you want.”

oy natural inclination is to go with the realist side, but my idealist side isn’t giving up.

This week I gained weight – 500g. While that’s not very much, I was hoping for at least a 2kg loss to help me out in my sprint to the finish line.

Alas, it’s only turned things into hell on earth.

I am trying to get to 70.6kg – 30kg lower than my starting weight – but not only do I need to lose 6.8kg in a very short space of time, but I have no idea how I’m going to do it.

Usually I have an answer for everything, but now I’m stumped.

This week I worked really hard on everything. I maxxed out on training, with bikram yoga and aerobic something every day.

I avoided every party and all alcohol and then went to bed early so I could get up and train each morning.Maybe I need to reverse it? Maybe I tried too hard?

Help me, Scotty!

on the upside, the girls who are taking part in the April Loses It challenge on Facebook are going great guns.

Some have lost 15kg since oay, while others have managed 10kg. However, my hat goes off to one young lady who has lifted 25kg from her frame and looks remarkable!

She’s one of the most inspirational followers of this column, posting her pictures on the website and being an avid supporter to everyone over the months.

What’s more, she has done it without a Scotty to kick her butt. She has squeezed in workouts when she can, while also juggling kids and work.

She has followed Scotty’s programmes for eating and training through the website and has called on him for extra motivation when she needed it.

As she lives in another city, her effort has proved Scotty’s a very successful virtual trainer. And do you know why? Because he not only knows what he’s doing in the physical training business, but, on a human level, he really cares.

If any of you started with me at the beginning of this journey in oay and haven’t told me how you’re doing on our Facebook page, remember to send me a letter with before and after photos of yourself, so you don’t miss out on the chance to be named our most inspirational reader and win a trip to paradise.

As for me, I am with my inner optimist. My fingers are crossed and I’m praying for a miracle.

April’s gain this week tested my knowledge base. She’s truly a unique person. The determination she’s shown is inspirational and evidence of what hard work can achieve. Throughout this journey I’ve said that, even though reaching 70kg would be awesome, I feel 75kg is more suited to her.

There’s a time when the body decides what its optimum working weight is to function properly. once it reaches that point it regulates itself to achieve good homeostasis, which helps to fight off illness, ageing and other related conditions.

I feel April is close to this ideal weight. There is a lot of conflicting information out there about why the obesity rate is so dramatically increasing. Lack of exercise and deep-fried foods are some of the main contributors and, until we develop better habits, we will become bigger.

If you really want to make a change, give yourself four weeks where you avoid all deep-fried food and go for a walk every day. You’ll see a difference to your body as well as the way you view the world. Start now!
