Nitty gritty feedback

Some feedback from readers on a letter I had about the ever-annoying problem of nits.

Dear Wendyl, I read recently your advice for getting rid of nits in children. I have a solution that was recommended by a neighbourhood hairdresser. It is “Benhex Cream” for scabies, about $10 from the chemist. Comb hair with nit comb then apply cream to hair, cover with shower cap or a plastic food cover and leave in overnight. Wash out in the morning. After just one application, your kids should be nit-free for at least six months. Good luck. Ellen, email

And here’s a natural solution …

Dear Wendyl, I hate using chemicals on my child so I cover their head with a mixture containing three parts olive oil to one part lavender essential oil, put on a shower cap and leave overnight. Then I follow by rinsing with apple cider vinegar to un-glue the lice eggs. Comb the hair with a nit comb and finish with a natural shampoo. Hope this helps. Sandra, email
