Sitting down for too many hours a day is bad for your health, with research showing it can lead to a range of serious conditions. This week: heart disease . . .
Sitting increases the risk of cardiovascular problems even if you take regular exercise, studies suggest. Physically active men who spent more than 23 hours a week sitting in front of a TV had a 64 per cent greater risk of dying from heart disease than those with fewer than 11 hours a week of sedentary activity, according to a South Carolina University study.
The surprise was among men who were physically active, those who sat the longest amount of time had higher cardiovascular disease mortality rates – thus their activity may not counteract those sedentary hours.
