Home gym: your bed

We discover household items you can use to get fit. This week: your bed.

“A bed can be great for dips to work the tricep muscles in your arms,” says fitness expert Lee Constantinou. Start by sitting on the edge of your bed, with your arms either side of your body and your feet flat on the floor.

Slowly push yourself away from the bed, and walk forward a step with your feet, while supporting your weight with your arms and legs. From this position, lower your bottom to the ground by bending your elbows until they reach a 90 degree angle.

Now, use your arms to push up, until your arms are almost completely straight. Repeat ten times. You can vary the exercise by grasping the bed with a wider grip, which uses more of the shoulder muscles, or make it harder by putting your feet on to a chair and dipping your entire bodyweight.
