Liquorice may hold the key to beating potentially deadly skin cancer. Research carried out at the University of Minnesota in the US has found that the root of the liquorice plant contains a compound that can slow down the growth of melanoma cells. Scientists are now working to develop it into a new drug that they hope will combat this form of cancer.
