Health quiz: Kelly Osbourne

Celebrity presenter Kelly Osbourne answers 10 questions about her health and wellbeing
  1. Are the Osbournes healthy eaters?

Until recently, I equated healthy foods with tasting gross. Growing up in an unconventional family such as mine didn’t help and any time my mum tried to cook, the firemen came! Now I like my greens and grilled fish.

  1. **Biggest vice?

**Ice cream. I’ll hide it at the back of the freezer, but I don’t know why I go through that trouble, as I know where it is!

  1. **Do you exercise?

**Three years ago I couldn’t even run for ten minutes on a treadmill, but since appearing in the American TV show Dancing With The Stars I now work out for at least an hour a day. At 1.57 m, I was 73 kg before I started the show. Now I’ve dropped to 51 kg.

  1. **Does dieting work?

**Too many people want a quick fix but, the only way to lose weight is to eat healthily and exercise. I’ve become addicted to looking good – it makes me feel better about myself.

  1. **Would you have plastic surgery?

** I’m all for it as long as you don’t take it too far, but I don’t want a turkey neck when I get older. However, like anything, you can get addicted to it.

  1. **Biggest phobia?

**The dentist! Luckily, I’m blessed with good teeth, despite what Americans say about British teeth.

  1. Worst injury?

Last year, when I was dancing at a club, I cracked my head open on an amplifier when my friend dipped me down. I didn’t realise the magnitude of my injury, but then I kept fainting, so I went to the hospital, where I had stitches and was told I had concussion. I’ve been having awful headaches ever since. I also damaged a disc in my neck in 2007.

  1. **Did you need surgery?

**I was told I’d need surgery to fuse my neck bones. I said no and through a two-year plan of physical therapy and acupuncture I improved. I believe in complementary medicines.

  1. **Have your family had health issues?

**Yes. In 2003, my dad had a quad-bike accident and broke six ribs, his collarbone, and a vertebrae in his neck. Mum was also battling colon cancer. It was a very difficult time – I got through it by numbing myself with drugs. But, after a while, I realised it was time for me to grow up.

  1. **What’s been your worst illness?

**Depression and self-hate. When you wake up as a teen and see the headline ‘Ozzy’s beached whale of a daughter’, you wouldn’t like yourself much. I felt tortured by the criticism, but it made me more determined later in life to prove people wrong.
