It’s a convenient way to get lots of vitamin C, but the sugar and acid levels in orange juice (or any other fruit juice, for that matter) are comparable to any full-sugar fizzy drink.
A 500ml bottle that you might grab on the run as a ‘healthier’ alternative to cola or lemonade actually contains 225 calories (about the same as in a Twirl chocolate bar), along with ten teaspoons of sugar, which though ‘natuarl’, is just as harmful to your teeth – and health – as added sugar.
Get it right: Don’t ditch fruit juice altogether – just have it in small amounts. You only need a 150ml glass to count as one fruit portion.
